Keep your Mountlake Terrace home warm and cozy with Bioheat
A greener, cleaner fuel source
Are you looking for ways to reduce carbon emissions in your home? Maybe you’re searching for a cleaner, alternative fuel for your oil-burning furnace, but aren’t sure what your options are? If so, you should check out the following “Five Reasons to Use Bioheat.”
- Burns cleaner, same heat
Bioheat is the most environmentally friendly home heating fuel available. With Bioheat, your Mountlake Terrace home will be warm and cozy throughout the winter months, just as if you were using regular fuel oil. Plus, you’ll have the advantage of helping to reduce air pollution and protect the environment.
- Made locally from renewable resources
Bioheat is made using biodiesel, a clean-burning fuel made from natural sources such as soybean oil or animal fat. The biodiesel in Genesee Bioheat blends are made from recycled cooking oil, taken from Seattle-area restaurants. This oil might have been previously used to fry fish & chips or fried chicken. But instead of being sent to the landfill, the oil is collected and recycled into biodiesel. It is then blended with ultra-low-sulfur petroleum to produce Bioheat.
- Lower your carbon footprint
Genesee Energy offers several blends of Bioheat. Our lowest blend, B25 (which is 25% biodiesel, 75% standard heating oil), produces lower carbon emissions in pounds per million BTU than petroleum or natural gas. We also offer B50 (50% biodiesel) and B99 (99% biodiesel) blends, which provide even lower carbon outputs. Bioheat is safe for home use, biodegrades as fast as sugar, and is less toxic than table salt.
- Use your current oil-burning furnace
You don’t have to buy a new furnace, or upgrade the one you have. All of Genesee Bioheat blends will work with your current oil-burning furnace. And you don’t need to drain your tank first because biodiesel blends easily with regular fuel oil. In fact, using Bioheat can help extend the life of your furnace because biodiesel acts as a natural cleaning agent for your filters, increasing lubricity and helping to prevent maintenance problems.
We recommend you start with B25 (our 25% biodiesel blend), which strikes a good balance between lower carbon emissions and reducing maintenance costs. You can then work up to B99 (our 99% blend), which is our cleanest-burning fuel source. This will allow your furnace to “get used to biodiesel,” without putting too much initial stress on your filters.
- Cost effective for the future
At the moment, Bioheat costs a few cents more per gallon than standard fuel oil. But because it is made locally, Bioheat is less susceptible to price fluctuations than heating fuel made with oil that is purchased overseas. In the next 10 years, the price of Bioheat will go down as the use of biofuel becomes more widespread. Also, since Bioheat helps your furnace to last longer, it saves you money in the long run by reducing your maintenance costs or eliminating the need to buy a new furnace.
