5 Reasons to use biodiesel instead of standard oil or natural gas to heat your home

May, 2015

When this company was founded in 1929, Herbert Hoover was President, coal was a major source of fuel for heating homes, and "environmentally friendly" was not a familiar phrase.Since then, we have come a long way. With the inception of Earth Day in 1970, and the creation of the United States Environmental Protection Agency, we are continuing to research, learn, and bring awareness to how we can reduce our carbon footprint. In this part of the world, heating our homes is one of our basic needs. It is one of many ways we consume energy in our daily lives. And, it should be of no surprise to you that consuming energy to the extent we do today, is proving to be harmful to the environment. So, where does that leave us? Consuming energy is, in fact, inevitable in meeting our basic needs today. However, we can be educated, responsible consumers of energy. And since energy is our business, it is also our responsibly to inform and educate our customers.Genesee is currently offering three blends of Bioheat, which is a combination of our standard heating oil and biodiesel. What is biodiesel? Biodiesel is a cleaner burning, renewable resource made from soybean oil, recycled cooking oil, or animal fats. Our Bioheat is specifically made only from local recycled restaurant cooking oil, which would otherwise end up in landfills. That makes our Bioheat product the most environmentally friendly heating fuel available. If you are currently using standard oil or thinking of switching to natural gas for heating your home, here are 5 reasons to use Bioheat instead.

1.Made from a renewable resource, Bioheat has a lower carbon footprint than standard oil, and reduces greenhouse gasses, of which natural gas is a major contributor. Biodiesel itself is actually less toxic to the environment than table salt, and biodegrades as fast as sugar! Our bioheat blends are as high as 99% biodiesel and 1% heating oil. Visit the US Environmental Protection Agency website for more data.

2. Bioheat is locally made in Washington, as well as all over the United States. Since 2000, biodiesel production has created more than 60,000 jobs in the U.S. This continued production will significantly lessen the U.S. dependence on imported oil, and therefore reduce our trade deficit. Less dependency on global oil markets also means we reduce our vulnerability to price spikes for this local Washington product.

3. Bioheat acts as cleansing agent, enhancing and extending the life of your equipment. It increases lubricity and results in fewer maintenance costs, thus saving you money.

4. Bioheat does not require any new equipment, and no retrofitting or modifications are needed if you have a standard oil furnace. All you need to do is request Bioheat for your next delivery.
