People Helping People

While Seattle was in the midst of a record breaking summer of no rain, the people of Huston, Texas suffered from massive rain and devastating floods brought on by Hurricane Harvey. The pictures were heart wrenching, so when given the opportunity to do something to help, two of our employees jumped at the chance. On Friday, September 1, 2017 The Salvation Army of King County partnered with Sinclair Broadcasting Group (KOMO TV and Radio), co-hosting a fundraising effort for Hurricane Harvey relief. Genesee Energy has been supporting the local work of The Salvation Army of King County for many years as our CEO, Steve Clark, serves on their advisory board. Representing Genesee Energy, our own Shavonna and Trisha volunteered in the call center taking donations by phone.During their shifts they took a combined 45-50 calls with donations ranging from $10 to $1000. By the end of the day, collection efforts through this local chapter of The Salvation Army raised more than $130,000 toward Hurricane Harvey relief in Texas.Well done Shavonna and Trisha!
