How Much Does a New Furnace Cost?
The answer to this question depends on many factors, however we will provide a baseline average by presenting three case studies. Each situation is real, local and recent (although names have been changed). These case studies are intended only to provide a framework. Since every house and homeowner is unique, each job is different, and will vary in cost. During each of these free in home evaluations, the homeowner was presented with a few options with varying prices. Prices for other very similar jobs may be higher or lower depending on factors such as the type of unit installing, and any additional work that needs to be done to support the new system.
Three Recent Furnace Installs
Emily in Seward Park needed a new furnace because her old oil furnace, after 45 years, finally quit working. Her heating oil tank is still in good shape, and she feels more comfortable knowing that heating oil is non-explosive. Emily chose a new, high efficient oil furnace to replace her old one. She did not need a new oil tank or a new fuel line to her furnace. Her total cost came to $4,967. This furnace will last for about 30 - 50 years.
William bought a house in Ballard and wanted to change from an oil furnace to a gas furnace. William does not have a gas line to his house, so before he can use a gas furnace, he had to pay the local gas company to install one. Since he will not need his oil tank anymore, William also paid a local company to decommission the tank so it will not leak the residual fuel remaining in the bottom. The cost of the gas line and the tank decommissioning is not part of our estimate. Genesee installed a high efficient gas furnace which cost William $6,138 and will last him about 12 - 15 years.
Monica lives in Maple Leaf. She wanted air conditioning, so she installed a high efficient heat pump for $11,475. This system will cut down on Monica's winter heating bills, but she will be adding energy cost while running her air conditioning.
