Oil and Gas Furnace Restart Instructions

With the impending storm and imminent power outages, we want to give you a few trouble shooting tips. Your furnace should come back on when the power is restored. However, if it doesn't, below you will find furnace restart instructions for both oil and gas furnaces.

If you have an oil furnace:

  1. Turn the thermostat above room temp.
  2. Check the breaker box to make the furnace circuit is on
  3. Make sure the power switch is on (should be located on or near the furnace)
  4. Push the reset button ONCE located on the burner (may have to remove a panel to find)
  5. If still no luck call Genesee at 206-722-1545

If you have a gas furnace:

  1. Turn the thermostat down to lowest temp for 2 minutes, then turn back above room temp
  2. Check the breaker box to make sure furnace circuit is on
  3. Make sure the power switch is on (should be located on or near the furnace)
  4. If still no luck call Genesee at 206-722-1545

If you smell gas in your home:

  1. Do not try to light any appliance or relight the pilot.
  2. Do not touch any electrical switch or plug anything into any electrical outlet.
  3. Get out of the house.
  4. Immediately call your local gas company.

In the event that you do lose power, hopefully you can snuggle up, play some board games, and enjoy the old fashion family time. "It is better to light a candle than curse the darkness." - Eleanor Roosevelt
